All about SAGOY

Introduction: 

SAGOY OUTDOOR CLUB is a  Cebu based non profit Outdoor organization, composed mostly of adventure seeking and nature loving mountaineers with strong environmental compassion and humanitarian advocacy. The  name SAGOY is a shortened Cebuano translation for wandering monkey ( Saag na Unggoy) to which the members of the organization have a lot in common with,  In addition, the members of the club do not label themselves as professionals of the sport. Hence the addition of "the FRU Mountaineers"  ( Frustrated Mountaineers) to the original name of the club.

          The members of the club are not limited to but most are graduates of USC, whose collective passions include mountaineering, biking, trail running and beachyneering with mountaineering being the most favored  among the four activities. Though the club was only formally established years later, after the founding members successful overtimely pursuit of their individual scholastic glory, graduating SUMA and MAGNA in their own rights, their hearts and minds were already strongly attracted to the charisma of the sport and the profound modesty of humanitarian service long before the birth of the club.



Here’s a brief history of SAGOY:

It all started last March 2010 with brothers, Lou Escoreal (koko) and Michael Belarmino (metoy), engineering graduates from the University of San Carlos – Technological Center agreed to step in a new level. The two brothers joined the annual trek at Mt. Manunggal in Balamban. After that event they were obsessed of outdoor sports. After a month, a Bitterr Ocampo look-a-like named Floyd dela Calzada aka plotacs joined the climb at Osmeña Peak, Dalaguete then traverse to Badian. The three of them proclaimed their first official climb on April 22, 2010 and SAGOY was born on the hills of Osmeña Peak by accident when someone asked them the name of their group.

On June 2010, SAGOY welcomed another member in the name of Aldrin Luzares aka Drow Arenola. The group climbed Mt. Lanaya in Alegria and went to the famous Gitara Springs. The climb was unplanned but was the craziest and most spontaneous adventure.  The Mt. Lanaya climb was the last event of SAGOY after its birth two months ago. SAGOY was inactive for two years and it was once said as the darkest era of the group because of its inactivity.

After a long journey koko is back from the far east side of the world with the foretold of the mother nature that sagoy was going to collapse and the mother nature said,
“Kakikokokarakara kaakrokorokrokro kak kak kak kokok rarara kikik kakoy”
“MGA SAGOY I need you  to comeback” the mother nature said.
So they comeback and re-united with old friends of the famous PG13 the Perador Grande in the 4th of August 2012 in Ayala Center Cebu the historic meeting. The group were attended by sagoyans brothers for the first time in two years and now it was written in history the beginning of the new SAGOY the FRU . The gathering was attended by Michael Belarmino, Floyd dela Calzada, Lou Escoreal, Dantley Kasaysayan, Liux Lumacang and John Luel Cuyos all engineering graduates from University of San Carlos. As the start of the new "SAGOY the fru" the group aim for future outdoor sports project, membership and events.

For the new bond of the NEW Sagoy they went to Osmena peak and for the first time in two years and it was joined by ladies another first time. Completing the star studded team are Belarmino, Dela Calzada, Escoreal, Kasaysayan, Lumacang, Cuyos and the ladies were Roxane Saberon and Flor wax. The climb was successful and brings more excitement to others who wants to join and creating a bigger friendship and camaraderie. It was the brightest era of the group in the year 2012 which is followed by a minor climb (Mount Lantoy, Argao Cebu September 22-23, 2012) and our major climb of the Year ( 3days adventure October 20-22, 2012 - Mount Talinis, Negros Oriental)

For mount lantoy expedition, sagoy members who join the event were F.  Dela Calzada, Escoreal, D. Kasaysayan, L. Lumacang, CJ "masterpopo" Tabiliran, FlorWax, R. Saberon and CL "maning"  Garcia. The lantoy event was full of fun from hiking to mountain and river trekking, , coconut adventure and the last is beachyneering. Since we made it to our minor climb, the group decided to make a major climb in Negros Oriental Mount Talinis outside in our province Cebu and attended by Floyd dela Calzada(plotacs), Aldrin Luzares (grooty), Lou Escoreal (koko), Cates Jude Tabiliran (masterpopo), Alvin John Ponce (aljo), Ric Marfiga Jr. (parekoy), Mao Tse Tong, Roxane Saberon (roxing) and Babie Ramirez (babski) with our guide Sir Adrian Pajunar of SEMS. 

As of today SOC members are from USC TC mostly ECE's and Architecture majors. In our third year as a FRU, SOC accepts honorary membership.
The first Honorary member is Sherbie delos Reyes from CIT.
